Carvoeiro | Lagoa history

Lagoa/Carvoeiro

The Carvoeiro / Lagoa region of the Algarve is a popular holiday destination for people of all ages. This is because the area has plenty of sun, and plenty of sea as well as a rich culture. With a rocky coastline, interrupted by serene inlets, coves and small beaches, holiday villas and luxury villas are nestled into the fantastic scenery. Self-catering holiday rentals combine freedom and privacy to ensure you can get the most out of the Carvoeiro & Lagoa region.

Thing to do in Lagoa/Carvoeiro, Portugal

The best way to discover the diverse coastline and to get your bearings is to hire a boat and a captain, and cruise down the coast, stopping off at secluded beaches and fishing villages. These can be taken from Carvoeiro or Benagil beach. Also out on the waves, the deep sea fishing is sensational, with the opportunity of catching marlin, swordfish, billfish, tuna, giant conga and blue, mako and hammer-head sharks.

If you are looking for a golfing holiday, there are some demanding courses in the area, the Vale de Milho, Vale de Pinta and Quinta do Gramacho are all 18 hole courses open to the public. There is also plenty to entertain any children on holiday in the Lagoa region, with Krazy World, mini golf, swimming pools, petting farms, quad bikes, horse riding, tennis and horse riding.

Places to holiday in the Carvoeiro/Lagoa region

The nice thing with this area is that a rented holiday villa here does not stop you enjoying everything there is to see on the coast. There are very good transport links, and everything is relatively close.

Carvoeiro is a charming town nestles in a bay, with cliffs on either side. It is a fantastic base to enjoy the region. For slightly more secluded destinations, Ferragudo is a quite fishing village a few miles down the coast, on an un-spoilt beach, and Sesmarias is in a conservation area, which prohibits further development, meaning it will retain its quiet coastal village feel for many years.

Rocha Brava, whilst being a lively beach resort, has been developed with conservation very much in mind. The buildings are all single storey, and there are huge amounts of green open spaces, trees and even an artificial lake. This is an ideal resort for young families, as there baby sitting facilities and plenty of activities.

Finally, for those with a fascination in the destinations history and culture, Silves is the town you are looking for. The remains of the castle are a good starting point for discovery.

Weather in Lagoa/Carvoeiro

Temperatures in the winter are still around 16˚C, and the summers are hot and dry, averaging around 30˚C. However, visitors are reminded that the nights can still get pretty cold, so a jumper is suggested!
